How Pointsbet works

As we mentioned, Pointsbet is specifically a line betting agency. The difference with Pointsbet is you win more when your bet wins and lose more when it loses. Rather than receiving fixed odds, you’ll be betting on an outcome to win or lose. It’s kind of similar to lay betting, expect Pointsbet define the prices.

Betting markets

pointsbet-markets Pointsbet
Pointsbet covers both Australian and US Sports evenly in betting markets. In Australia, they have a main focus on the AFL and NRL seasons. While during the NBA season, they’ll provide a number of betting markets.

AFL betting – Aussie Rules is covered by Pointsbet and they provide markets for each match for round. The feature market is the line and you can back the favourite or the underdog. Although, they don’t provide any AFL future markets, such as: Grand Final winner and Brownlow medal to name a few.

Football/Soccer betting – Odds for the English Premiers League, International matches, US Major League soccer and more.

NRL betting – Similar to AFL, the NRL betting markets are centred around the line for each match during the NRL season. They also have markets for exotic bet types such as match points, first try time and more.

NBA betting – Pointsbet cover the NBA season and offer unique markets for time based betting. These include: time of first free throw, time for players to pass a points total and time of first 2pt field goal per team or player.

NFL betting – They already provide markets for the NFL season before it has started. The markets for an NFL match include: line betting per team, total match points and per team match points.

Rugby Union – Odds for the latest International matches and Super Rugby matches.

Tennis betting – Game line for each player, bet on match games, total points and total match points per player. Future markets for Grand Slam winner during the tournament. They also provide a versus market where you can bet on two players reaching the final, eg Federer versus Nadal.

They’re missing a few sports, such as Major League Baseball (They have Japanese Baseball instead), but all of the popular sports in Australia are covered.

Betting Odds comparison

We’ll compare the lines at Pointsbet with Sportsbet and William Hill on a few different sports below:

NRL – Sydney Roosters v South Sydney Rabbitohs
Round 18, 2017

Pointsbet provide tougher odds for the favourite at -5 but have better odds for the underdog compared to Sportsbet.

Pointsbet – Roosters +3, Rabbitohs -5
Sportsbet – Roosters +4, Rabbitohs -4
William Hill – Roosters +2.5, Rabbitohs -2.5

AFL – West Coast Eagles vs Port Adelaide Power
Round 16, 2017

Sportsbet and William Hill have the same odds for this match but Pointsbet provides much better odds for the underdog line (Power).

Pointsbet – Eagles -10, Power 6+
Sportsbet – Eagles -9.5, Power +9.5
William Hill – Eagles -9.5, Power +9.5

(All odds recorded on Monday, 3rd July 2017)

Website Design

The Pointsbet website is designed with a black, blue and red colour scheme. The blue and red colours are used for displaying odds in unders and overs. The blue colour represents the over and the red is for unders. At the top of the website, you’ll find images of each sports category and the available markets to bet on. All sport categories are also located in the left hand menu and can be accessed on every page. The my account section includes links for responsible gambling, deposit and withdraw options, refer a friend and account limit. Your account balance is located in the top right corner and shows how much funds you have available.

Mobile

Instead of a dedicated mobile app, Pointsbet have a responsive website that is easy to navigate on a mobile device. The desktop website shrinks into a mobile version and offers a simple to use navigation. They’ll most likely add a mobile app in the future but this is a simple option for now.

Customer verification process

Pointsbet require all new customers to verify their credit or debit card before a withdrawal can be placed. They will send instructions to your registered email address with a step-by-step process. It’s a quick, three step process and you’ll just need to send a photocopy of your credit card to verification@pointsbet.com.

Payment Options

pointsbet-promo-code Pointsbet
Currently, Pointsbet provide basic options for depositing funds into an account. This includes: Debit / Credit Card and Bank Transfer. The Debit / Credit Card options provides instant funding, while Bank Transfer can take a few days to clear. When you signup as a new customer, you’ll receive an email with instructions for depositing funds into your account. An account must have funds for betting. Also, it’s best to deposit within a few days of opening the account or it could be suspended.

This also applies for withdrawals as your account must be verified before funds can be transferred. A withdrawal also must meet the turnover requirements of 1x your deposit bonus amount. They currently only offer bank account withdrawals and this can be accessed from the right hand menu on the desktop website. The amount that can be withdrawn is displayed at the top of the withdraw page and a bank account details from displays below. If you’re withdrawal request is unsuccessful, a red message will show and provide instructions as to why it failed.

Customer Service

The customer service team is available from 6am to 12am on every day of the week. This is great service compared to their competitors. They’ll assign a personal account manager and they can help with any questions you might have about betting with Pointsbet. They can be emailed at support@pointsbet.com and they provide a phone number for customer support questions (13-72-38).

Deferred Settlement

As a Pointsbet customer, they have a deferred settlement application option for betting in advance. Customers can apply online and set the deferred amount. Head to your my account page when logged in and click the “Apply for DSF” button to get started. Simply enter your personal details, driver’s licence details and address. The Pointsbet team will then review your application and let you know if it’s successful within a few days. If successful, customers will need to place a deposit of the same value as the deferred amount set when registering.

Responsible Gambling

At Pointsbet, they take responsible gambling seriously as they offer options for limiting your betting. In the my account section, they provide a “Set Exclusion Period”, which blocks access to your account for a specified time. They also have an “Account Limit” option and you can choose to limit your deposit amount. It’s important to note that this amount can’t be changed within 7 days of each change. They allow for deposit limits by: 1 day, 1 week or 1 month. In addition, the website has a security certificate installed and protects your information online. This includes credit card and personal details.

Start betting with Pointsbet!

With a huge bonus bet on offer, we would recommend giving Pointsbet a try, especially if you’re a fan of line betting and US Sports. They lack the features of a traditional bookmaker – such as cashout, price boosts, mobile app to name a few. However, they make up for this by providing a unique and fun betting experience online. Another great feature at Pointsbet is the customer support as they’re available for 16 hours every day – which is rare in Australia. They boost over 5,000 betting markets on the latest sports around the globe and you have the potential to win more then fixed odds betting in line betting.
