Weekend Sports Betting Guide – 27/28 July 2018

MLB Friday

Dodgers at Braves

27 Jul, 9:35am
Odds: Braves $2.12, Dodgers $1.74
The Dodgers road-trip continues onto Atlanta as they face the 54-44 Braves. Both sides are coming comfortable losses so the first game of this series will be crucial. The Dodgers lost 7-3 to the Phillies, which made it 2 straight losses. The Braves played in 2 contrasting games in Miami. They thrashed them 12-1 on Tuesday and then the home side countered with a 9-3 win over the Braves. In the head to head, the two sides met in LA back in June with the Dodgers taking 2 of 3. All 3 games were high scoring so that should be the betting angle here. In the Dodgers last 4 games, the total has reached 10 or more runs. The Braves are 3-1 against the over in their last 4 games as well. At home, the Braves are scoring 4.73 runs per game, which is 8th in the Majors. Meanwhile, the Dodgers are scoring over 5 runs per game when they hit the road. They also hold a 28-22 away record and should continue their run scoring production in Atlanta to push this over the total.
Best bet: Over 9 runs $1.90

Brewers at Giants

27 Jul, 12:15pm
Odds: Giants $1.83, Brewers $2.02
The day of MLB action ends in San Francisco with the Giants hosting the Brewers. The home side is back in San Fran after a 5 game road-trip where they went 2-3. Which did include 2 extra inning losses. They’ve been a dominant home team in 2018 with a 31-19 record. Meanwhile, the Brewers are similar to the Giants when they travel. On the road, they’ve lost 6 straight games and hold an inconsistent 25-25 record. If they’re looking to make the playoffs, they need to start winning these type of road games. However, the head to head odds say this will be a close game, mainly based on the starting pitchers. The Giants Dereck Rodriguez holds a 5-1 record on the season with a 2.72 ERA. In his latest, he pitched 3 hit ball in 6.1 innings of work. Wade Miley is up for the Brewers. He’s coming off a 4 hit / 6 inning outing against the Dodgers. He’s also pitched well in his previous 2 road outings. Last season, when these two sides met at this venue in 3 games, the total averaged just 5 runs. So with this strong pitching matchup, I can see both batting lineups struggling to get on the board.
Best bet: Under 8 runs $1.86

Rugby Union – Semi Finals

Crusaders vs Hurricanes

28 Jul, 5:35pm
Odds: Crusaders $1.35, Hurricanes $3.25
The Super Rugby finals continue with a New Zealand rivalry matchup between the Crusaders and Hurricanes. The Crusaders have dominated this season and will be the favourites to continue their run against the Hurricanes. Last week, they comfortably beat the Sharks 40-10. The win made it 9 straight at home this season. They also beat the Hurricanes in the last meeting 24-13, which was also at this venue. Meanwhile for the away side, they come to Christchurch after a 32-31 win over the Chiefs at Westpac Stadium. The scoreline didn’t reflect their dominance of that game so they should come here with confidence. They were the only team this season to contain the Crusaders attack and that will be the key to this matchup. They were the 2nd best defensive team in away games and will need to stop the Crusaders home scoring form as they average 38 points per game! While the Hurricanes have been a good defensive team, they have lost 4 straight away games and this won’t be any easier. Not to mention, they’ve never beaten the Crusaders in the Super Rugby finals from 4 attempts. So I can see a close affair with the Crusaders reaching the Grand Final with a 1-12 victory.
Best bet: Crusaders 1-12 $2.60

Lions vs Waratahs

28 Jul, 11:05am
Odds: Lions $1.27, Waratahs $3.80
The Finals head to Jo’Burg with the last standing South African and Australian team. The Lions will be aiming for their third straight Grand Final appearance and the Waratahs will be looking for another upset. In Sydney last week, they staged the biggest comeback in Super Rugby finals history! With a 17 point deficit at half-time, they stormed home with 24 unanswered points, mainly thanks to Bernard Foley and Folau. This will be another tough test for this side that has been impressive in 2018. They’ve lost 3 in a row against the Lions and were shutout in the earlier meeting this season. At home, they couldn’t find their mojo in a 29-0 defeat. While for the Lions, they beat the Jaguares 40-23 in a comfortable home victory. At Emirates Airlines Park this season, they’ve recorded 7 wins from 9 and have won 4 in a row here. But the Waratahs attack can be dangerous enough to upset them. They ranked as the best away team in terms of points scored in 2018. In contrast, the Lions were an average defensive team at home, allowing 25 points on average. So in a high scoring battle, I can see the Waratahs getting within the 9.5 line on offer.
Best bet: Waratahs +9.5 $1.96

Tennis – Atlanta Open

Nick Kyrgios at Noah Rubin

27 Jul, 9am
Odds: Noah Rubin $5.00, Nick Kyrgios $1.17
Nick Kyrgios continues his prep for the US Open with a matchup against the USA’s Noah Rubin at the Atlanta Open. Kyrgios is the number 2 seed in the tournament and will be expecting an easy win on Friday morning. Which is reflected in the odds of $1.17 head to head for Kyrgios. The pair have never met on the tour. Previously, Rubin took down fellow Aussie Kokkinakis in straight sets and holds a 10-4 record on hard courts this season. He’ll also be looking to challenge himself against Kyrgios before the US Open. Kyrgios hasn’t played since his 3rd round exit at Wimbledon, which was a tough battle against Nishikori. Hard court is arguably his best surface to play on. Overall in his career, he holds a 122-64 record and has won 9 of 11 this season. So in the end, I’m predicting a comfortable win for Kyrgios in straight sets.
Best bet: Kyrgios 2-0 $1.68
