William Hill MLB Betting Tips – 24 July, 2018

Los Angeles Dodgers @ Philadelphia Phillies

24 Jul, 9:05am
Dodgers $1.71, Phillies $2.18
The baseball action begins with an interesting series between the Dodgers and Phillies in Philadelphia. Both sides are atop their division in the National League and will look to stay there in the second half of the season. The home side has a 31-17 record in home games this year, so they’ll be playing well. But the Dodgers come to Philly with a 27-20 away record and they also rank 3rd in the Majors for runs scored on the road. They just added Manny Machado from the Orioles and that will help even more as they push for another World Series. During this road trip, they’ve scored 19 total runs in 3 games against the Brewers as well. In the pitching matchup, Zach Eflin is up for the Phillies and he will pitch against Ross Stripling for the Dodgers. Eflin holds a 3.15 ERA this season. But he struggled against the Dodgers this season, giving up 5 runs in 4 innings of work. He also holds a 9.00 ERA against them since 2016. Stripling has an ERA of just 2.08 and kept the Padres to just 6 hits over 6 innings in his latest, which was also on the road. So in the end, with the Dodgers offence on fire and their edge in the pitching matchup, the best bet is Dodgers to win.
Best bet: Dodgers WIN $1.71

St. Louis Cardinals @ Cincinnati Reds

24 Jul, 9:10am
Reds $1.80, Cardinals $2.05
The Reds host the Cardinals in this NL Central rivalry matchup and the home side will be desperate for a win. They’ve lost 4 straight and were swept by the Pirates in their first home series after the All-Star break. The Cardinals aren’t playing much better as they come to Cincinnati on the back of two straight 7-2 losses against the Cubs. However, they have enjoyed playing the Reds this season as they hold a 6-1 record at this venue. But they will be giving the ball to a rookie in Daniel Poncedeleon. So he’ll need to stop the Reds batting lineup which ranks 7th in the Majors for runs scored at home. While for the Reds, Luis Castillo heads to the hill in search of his 6th win this season. He actually last pitched against the Cardinals as well and allowed 5 hits in 5 innings for a decent outing. He doesn’t have a great record against them in home games with 8 earned runs in his last 12.1 innings. So the trend at the moment with the Reds is the overs and the pitching matchup should push this over 9.5 runs. In 9 of the last 10 games involving the Reds, the total has reached 10 or more runs. The Cardinals have played in 3 straight games with a 9 run total. But they’ve scored 6.14 runs at this venue this season and should enjoy facing Castillo again. The over is 6-1 when these two sides meet as well, so I like the value on offer.
Best bet: Over 9.5 runs $1.98

Washington Nationals @ Milwaukee Brewers

24 Jul, 10:10am
Brewers $1.91, Nationals $1.93
The Nationals and Brewers will look to break out of their slump when meet in Milwaukee on Tuesday. For the home side, they’re just 2-8 in their last 10 and their NL Central hopes are hanging by a thread at the moment. They were smashed by the Dodgers 11-2 on Monday and have scored just 3.7 runs on average in their last 10. But they still hold a good runs against record at home with just 4 runs allowed on average. So the should be able to keep this low scoring and close. The Nationals are 4-6 in their last 10 and haven’t been playing great baseball. So with both sides struggling, the odds are very tight in terms of picking a winner. In that case, the total is set fairly high at 9 runs and that should go under the total. Jhoulys Chacin of the Brewers holds a 1.98 ERA when facing the Nationals and he’s been pitching well lately. Gio Gonzalez is up for the away side and has been solid lately. He pitched 6 innings against the Pirates in his latest and took a tough loss as he allowed just 6 hits / 2 runs. He didn’t have a great start in his last outing at Miller Park but he still has good strikeout numbers and will face a Brewers lineup that isn’t at their 100% best at the moment. The under also has a positive trend at Miller Park this season with 27 of 51 games going under the total.
Best bet: Under 9 runs $1.86
