Weekend Sports Betting Guide – 6/7 July 2018

MLB – Friday

Marlins at Nationals

6 Jul, 9:05am
Odds: Nationals $1.53, Marlins $2.55
The Nationals are set to take on the Marlins at Nationals Park in their NL East matchup. The home side will be desperate for a win after a horrid stretch. In their last 10, they’re just 2-8 and just got swept by the Red Sox at home. They’re now 19-23 at home this season. But they will face an easier task against the Marlins here. They went 5-5 at home in a recent homestand. However, they have struggled on the road with a 17-26 record and they were swept by the Nationals in late May. Since last season, the Nationals have recorded 11 straight wins over them and they should bounce back to form with a big win here at home. They will also face Pablo Lopez, who’s coming off his first career start. Which he allowed 2 home runs in against the Mets and they don’t have the best batting lineup. So the likes of Harper and co should enjoy this pitching matchup. Jeremy Hellickson is up for the Nationals and he owns a 2.18 ERA against the Marlins. His last 7 starts this season have been respectable with a 1.93 ERA and a 2-1 record. So in those 11 straight wins, the Nationals have won 9 by 2+ runs and I’ll be getting on the handicap as a result.
Best bet: Nationals -1.5 $2.03

Rugby Union – Round 18

QLD Reds vs Melbourne Rebels

6 Jul, 7:45pm
Odds: QLD Reds $2.35, Melbourne Rebels $1.60
The Reds host the Rebels in an all-Australian Super Rugby matchup. The Rebels are aiming for their first spot in the finals and the Reds season is almost over. So the Rebels should have more to play for in the end. They smashed the Reds 45-19 in the first meeting this season. Last week, they were gallant losers against the Waratahs by a try. The Reds are coming back from New Zealand as they were trashed by the Blues. At 4-10, their main problem this year has been defence. They’re giving up 32.2 points per game and that ranks them 14th in Super Rugby. The Rebels should take advantage of their poor defence and record a big win at Suncorp.
Best bet: Rebels WIN $1.60

Chiefs vs Brumbies

7 Jul, 3:15pm
Odds: Chiefs $1.15, Brumbies $5.50
The Brumbies head across the ditch to face a challenge against the Chiefs. The home side is coming off a trashing of the Highlanders 45-22. In fact, they were up 42-0 at half-time so the scoreline could have been worse. The Brumbies are coming off 3 straight wins and they knocked off the Hurricanes at home last week. So they should be confident of an upset as they look for an unlikely finals spot. In the end, I can see a close affair as the Brumbies defence is capable of stopping the Chiefs. However, I’m not sure they have enough points in them to trouble the home side. At this venue, the 1-12 margin is 3-1 when the Chiefs play the Brumbies. Overall in the Chiefs last 3 wins, they have won 2 by 1-12. Chiefs 1-12.
Best bet: Chiefs 1-12 $3.10

Soccer – World Cup

Uruguay vs France

7 Jul, 12am
Odds: Uruguay $4.50, France $2.00
Its been an exciting World Cup so far and the tournament now reaches the Quarter Finals. To kick it off, France will take on Uruguay on Saturday morning. The French won through to this stage with a high scoring 4-3 win over Argentina. They’re yet to lose a game at this World Cup and have lived up to their pre-tournament expectations. Meanwhile, Uruguay knocked out Portugal in a close win. But they will start as the underdog here. In the head to head, these two sides have enjoyed close and low scoring matches. Since 2002, they’ve played 4 0-0 draws in 5 meetings. While this should be a tight contest, the chances of both team scoring is high. They’ll both be desperate to advance and have been good in attack during the tournament.
Best bet: Both Teams To Score Yes $2.25

Brazil vs Belgium

7 Jul, 4am
Odds: Brazil $2.10, Belgium $3.65
The next game is arguably the best of the round as Brazil takes on Belgium. Brazil won through to this stage with a 2-0 win over rivals Mexico. Belgium went down 2-0 against Japan before an incredible comeback would see them reach the Quarters. So they can’t afford the same deficit against a quality team like Brazil. The two sides last met at the 2002 World Cup and Brazil won on that occasion, 2-0. They’ve never lost against Belgium in the 4 historical meetings as well. So in this one, I do see a high scoring game. Taking out a dead rubber game against England, Belgium games have all gone over the total goals and they’ve scored 3 or more goals in 4 of their last 5 wins. Brazil will be the best defensive team they’ve played so far but I do see them at least scoring 1-2 goals. Brazil’s attack with Neymar and Jesus Gabriel should be able to find space in the forward line.
Best bet: OVER 2.5 goals $2.00

Tennis – Wimbledon

Robin Haase at Nick Kyrgios

6 Jul, 12:30am
Odds: Nick Kyrgios $1.17, Robin Haase $5.00
Aussie Nick Kyrgios will face Robin Haase from France in this 2nd round matchup at Wimbledon on Friday morning. Kyrgios is the warm favourite after a 4 set win over Istomin in the 1st round. But he did it tough with the first three sets going to a tie-break. Haase had a similar outing as he beat Copil in 4 sets. 2 of the 4 sets went into a tie-break as well. In the head to head, they’ve met just once with Kyrgios winning in straight sets in 2015. But in this matchup, I can see the over total games getting up with both players capable of taking this to 4/5 sets. On grass, Kyrgios is 9-2-2 against the over since 2016. Haase is 14-9 since 2015 in the same stat. Overall this year, games with Kyrgios are 14-5-2 against the over and 22-8-1 in Haase’s games.
Best bet: Over 36.5 Total Match Games $1.85
