Weekend Sports Betting Guide – 29/30 June 2018

MLB – Friday

Brewers at Reds

29 Jun, 9:10am
Odds: Reds $1.91, Brewers $1.93
Cincinnati are finally playing winning baseball after 9 wins in their last 10. They beat the Braves on the road in their previous series 2-1. Before that, they swept the Cubs in 4 game at home. So they will be aiming for an 8th straight win at home when they take on the Brewers. In contrast, they had a pretty poor homestand as they went 3-3. But they do play well in road games. Their 22-16 and rank 2nd in the Majors for runs against. In the head to head, they also lead the Reds 5-1 and swept them in the last series at this venue. They will also have the edge on the mound. Junior Guerra has a 2.56 ERA in his last 7 starts and despite a 3-5 record on the season, the Brewers rarely give him run support. Anthony DeSclafani is up for the Reds and he’ll aim for win number 4 in a row. He has been getting run support compared to Guerra. So in the end, I’m liking the unders in this contest, which is 3-3 between the sides this season. The pitching matchup should keep this below the total and the Brewers are especially not scoring enough runs to push it past 9 runs.
Best bet: Under 9 runs $1.90

Astros at Rays

29 Jun, 9:10am
Odds: Rays $2.40, Astros $1.59
The streaking Rays will look to continue their form when they take on the Astros this Friday. Tampa has won 5 straight games and 8 in a row at home. During their 5 win streak, they’ve swept the Yankees in 3 and beat the Nationals twice. Which are two team’s that made the playoffs last season. So they should be very confident here. These two sides met just last week and the Astros won a tight series 2-1. They just outscored them 11-7. Overall this season, Houston is one of the best travelling sides. They’re ranked 1st for runs scored and runs conceded away from Houston. Their record speaks for itself with 29 wins from 40. But the Rays are conceding just 3.25 runs in home games and that ranks 2nd in the Majors. This game will be their bullpen day with Ryne Stanek getting the start. He pitched as the starter in his latest as the Rays won 2-1 against the Yankees. He also faced the Astros in his previous start with the Astros just getting up 5-4. So in the end, I’m predicting another close game with the Rays keeping this tight. They’re played impressively at home and that should continue.
Best bet: Rays +1.5 $1.86

Rugby Union – Round 17

Blues vs Reds

29 Jun, 5:35pm
Odds: Blues $1.25, Reds $4.00
The Blues and Reds kick off Round 17 in a battle between two disappointing teams. For the home side, they’re yet to win at Eden Park in 2018 with 7 straight losses. They’ve scored around 20 points per game in home games as well, which almost ranks last in Super Rugby. They should at-least enjoying playing the Reds. They’re 1-6 on the road and have lost 4 straight away games. They rank 15th for points allowed in away games and conceded large margins all season. So I do see a close encounter between two sides that haven’t played well this season. They both score around the same points per game and have average defences. The Blues should be a bit more motivated to win on their home turf. So in the end, I’m getting on the Blues to finally break their home duck and win by 1-12.
Best bet: Blues 1-12 $2.75

Rebels vs Waratahs

29 Jun, 7:45pm
Odds: Rebels $2.25, Waratahs $1.65
The Friday night double-headers ends in Melbourne with a massive clash between the Rebels and Waratahs. Before the break, both sides earned a win. The Rebels won 20-10 in New Zealand against the Blues. The Waratahs and Reds put on a scoring clinic as the NSW side won 52-41. Which has been the story between the Rebels and Waratahs. They met in March this season and the Rebels led early on. But the Waratahs blitzed them in the second half on their way to a 51-27 victory. In fact, their last 2 wins over the Rebels have seen them to score 50 or more. They also love playing them in Melbourne with a 5-1 record since 2010. The Rebels haven’t covered a line when they’re home underdogs (0-5) since 2016. So I’m tipping another strong win by NSW. They have more points in them and will be hard to stop near the try-line.
Best bet: Waratahs -2.5 $1.90

Brumbies vs Hurricanes

30 Jun, 7:45pm
Odds: Brumbies $4.30, Hurricanes $1.22
Saturday night Super Rugby action will see the Brumbies hosting the Hurricanes. At 5-8, the Brumbies will be looking for a few upsets to end their disappointing season. In contrast, the 10-3 Hurricanes are looking to build form before the finals. They did lose 2 in a row before the break, but they were against the Crusaders and Highlanders. The Brumbies generally struggle against the Hurricanes and that shouldn’t change here. They last met in Canberra in 2017 and the Hurricanes won 35-16. So they’re warm favourites in the betting at $1.22. Overall this season, the Brumbies have a 3-4 record at home and it’s hard to see them out-scoring the NZ side. ACT ranks 13th in Super Rugby for points scored in home games. They will face the Hurricanes who score 27 points per game on the road and also hold the 2nd best defence in those games as well. So I can’t see the Hurricanes dropping this one and they’ll record another big victory.
Best bet: Hurricanes -11.5 $1.90

Soccer – World Cup

England vs Belgium

29 Jun, 4am
Odds: England $2.30, Belgium $3.20
The last group match of the World Cup will arguably be one of the best matchups. In Group 6, England and Belgium will face off with the winner taking out top spot in the Group. These two sides have both scored 8 goals in their 2 wins and have also conceded just 2 goals. For England, they absolutely thrashed Panama last game in a 6-1 result. Which sealed their spot in the next stage. Harry Kane scored a hat-trick and England fans left very happy with their side. Especially after failing to reach the Round of 16 in 2014. Meanwhile, Belgium is coming off a crushing win as well as they put back 5 goals against Tunisia. Combining the last 2 games, both sides have scored a mammoth total of 11 goals. So the Both Teams to Score bet should salute here. In the head to head, England has dominated Belgium since 1920 with 15 wins from 20 matches. In those matches, Belgium has won just once, which occurred all the way back in 1936. So that should give them some extra motivation to finally break through against England. In the end, I think this will still be low scoring as both sides are through to the next stage already. So a 1-1 result would be great for punters.
Best bet: Both Teams to Score – Yes $1.85
