Weekend Sports Betting Guide – 22/23/24 June 2018

MLB – Friday

Baltimore Orioles at Washington Nationals

22 Jun, 9:05am
Odds: Washington Nationals $1.31, Baltimore Orioles $3.60
The poor Orioles will face a mammoth task this Friday against Max Scherzer. He is 10-3 on the season with an ERA of just 2.06. Incredibly, he has recorded 10 or more strikeouts in 7 of his last 10 starts. So he should dominate an Orioles lineup that is basically tanking. They have the fewest wins in the Majors and already sit around 28 games back in the AL East. Kevin Gausman will get the ball for the away side. He’s 3-6 with a 4.48 ERA. The Orioles have lost 6 straight games when he hits the mound. On the road, team’s are batting .296 against him and the Nationals lineup should enjoy their time on Friday. So with Scherzer on the hill, I can’t see the Orioles getting within 2 runs. They’re just 9-28 on the road and probably won’t score over 2 runs in this matchup.
Best bet: Nationals -1.5 $1.79

St. Louis Cardinals at Milwaukee Brewers

22 Jun, 10:10am
Odds: Milwaukee Brewers $1.77, St. Louis Cardinals $2.10
NL Central rivals meet in Milwaukee with game 1 of this series. Both sides are fighting for top spot in the division so this is a key set for each team. The Brewers have been good at home in 2018 with a 21-14 record. But they’re striving for consistency at the moment with a 5-5 record in their last 10 games overall. But the Cardinals are just 3-7 in their last 10 and they’re 4-5 against the Brewers this season. They will start Carlos Martinez and his current form is a concern. In his last 2 starts, he’s allowed a massive total of 13 walks in 8.2 innings. So his control is way off the mark. His ERA over his last 7 is still respectable at 3.41. But he hasn’t faced many good teams over that stretch. So the Brewers lineup should make him pay. Junior Guerra will make the start for the Brewers and he kept the Cardinals to 4 hits over 6 innings in his last outing against them at this venue. So all signs are pointing to a Brewers home win.
Best bet: Brewers WIN $1.77

NRL – State of Origin

NSW Blues vs QLD Maroons

24 Jun, 7:45pm
Odds: NSW Blues $1.37, QLD Maroons $3.20
Origin game 2 kicks off on Sunday night at ANZ Stadium. The Blues are aiming for their first series win since 2014. They out-played the Maroons in game 1 with a 22-12 victory. Fullback James Tedesco was named man of match as he made the QLD defence look pretty average. Also, all 4 tries by the Blues went to their outside backs as new coach Freddie Fittler opted for speed over experience this year. The likes of Mitchell, Addo-Carr, Trbojevic and Tedesco were all dangerous around the ruck and took advantage of the QLD forwards. So in game 2, QLD will need to tighten up in the middle of the field otherwise this could end up in the same result. For game 2, they will welcome back Billy Slater and Ponga comes off the bench. NSW have made one change due to injury and Matt Prior replaces Campbell-Gillard. So the betting has NSW as massive favourites to finally end their Origin hoodoo. They love playing at ANZ Stadium and I do think their squad is just too strong at the moment. So this should be a close encounter once again with NSW getting up by 1-12 as they did in game 1.
Best bet: NSW 1-12 $2.80

Rugby Union

Australia vs Ireland

23 Jun, 8:05pm
Odds: Australia $2.40, Ireland $1.58
The series is locked at 1-1 so both sides will be desperate to win game 3. The Wallabies took game 1 in Brisbane with some strong defence. Then Ireland countered in Melbourne with a 26-21 win. It was their first win against the Wallabies in Australia since 1979. So they will head to Sydney with the hoodoo off their back and confidence after a great win in Melbourne. They’ll also be well favoured in the betting at $1.58. With injuries to Genia and Coleman, the home side will face an uphill battle. But on their home turf, Australia should step up to the occasion. So I like the either team to win by under 7.5 points which saluted in game 2. These two sides are very even and there was a 5 point margin between them in game 2.
Best bet: Triple Margin I – Any Other Result $2.25

Soccer – World Cup

Brazil vs Costa Rica

22 Jun, 10:00pm
Odds: Brazil $1.18, Costa Rica $17.00
South American foes Brazil and Costa Rica battle in this Group E matchup. For Brazil, they were held to a surprising 1-1 draw against Switzerland and will need 3 points in this contest. It was the first time since 1978 that Brazil had failed to win their opening game at the World Cup. But Costa Rica will be desperate after a 1-0 defeat against Serbia. The key storyline in this game is the fitness of Brazilian striker Neymar. He suffered an ankle injury in game 1 and probably will lineup, but he surely won’t be 100%. In the head to head, Brazil has enjoyed their time against Costa Rica with 9 wins in their 10 meetings. The last matchup at the World Cup was a 5-2 Brazil win and they haven’t lost against them since 1960. I think the flood-gates will open up for Brazil as they won’t be happy with a draw in game 1. So the over total goals is good value in this matchup.
Best bet: Over 2.5 goals $1.73

Serbia vs Switzerland

23 Jun, 4am
Odds: Serbia $2.60, Switzerland $2.90
Another key game in Group 3 will be the clash between Serbia and Switzerland. Serbia sit atop the table after a 1-0 win over Costa Rica. Meanwhile, Switzerland earned a point against Brazil. So the bookies aren’t sure who will win this clash. Serbia is just favourite at $2.60. But the draw against Brazil should give Switzerland confidence. These two countries have never played a game against each other. So it’s a tough game to pick a winner. In the end, I do think both sides can find the back of the net which is paying good value at $2.10. They both scored in their opening World Cup matches.
Best bet: Both Teams to Score $2.10
