Weekend Sports Betting Guide – 1/2/3 June 2018

NBA – Finals Game 1

Cleveland Cavaliers at Golden State Warriors

1 June, 11:10am
Odds: Golden State Warriors $1.11, Cleveland Cavaliers $7
The NBA Finals kick off on Friday morning and once again the Warriors will battle against the Cavs. Both sides won in game 7 matchups in the last series so I’m hoping this goes the full distance. However, the Warriors are massive favourites and they should be. LeBron has basically carried the Cavs all season and he’ll probably run out of steam unless someone else gives him some help. Which they’ll be hoping Kevin Love can return from a concussion and the likes of Jeff Green/Kyle Korver step up. This season, the two sides met twice and the Warriors won on both occasions. In December, they won at this venue 99-92 and then beat the Cavs by 10 points in Cleveland. Since 2011, the Warriors are 12-4 at home over the Cavs and they have an incredible record as a fav at home. So the question is – Can they beat the 12.5 point line? Well at this venue, the Cavs have covered in just 5 of 17 games. They played poorly on the road against Boston, excluding the game 7 win as the Celtics were always undermanned. The Warriors are a tougher challenge and they’re coming off a 115-86 home win over the Rockets. So I do believe the likes of Curry, Durant and Thompson will out-shoot the Cavs and make a statement in game 1.
Best bet: Warriors -12.5 $1.92

Rugby Union – Super Rugby Round 16

Blues vs Rebels

2 June, 3:15pm
Odds: Blues $1.32, Rebels $3.40
The 6-6 Rebels head across the ditch for a tough battle against the Blues. The Melbourne side got the job done against the Sunwolves last week and they’re currently sitting in finals contention. So they’ll be looking to overturn a 0-3 record against the Blues in New Zealand. It’s been a disappointing and injury riddled season for the home side as they hold a 3-9 record. They have a 1-4 record in their last 5 and haven’t won a game at home this season (0-6). The problem has been mainly defence where they allowed 31 points per game. So they will need to stop the Rebels attack, which can dominate teams when they’re on their game. So in the end, I see massive value for the Rebels as they should have more motivation compared to the Blues. They need to win this for their final hopes and the last few clashes in NZ have been very close.
Best bet: Rebels WIN $3.40

Reds vs Waratahs

2 June, 7:45pm
Odds: Reds $2.75, Waratahs $1.45
State of Origin comes early to Suncorp with the QLD Reds hosting the NSW Waratahs. The Waratahs have been the much better side this season and they should be confident of beating the Reds once again. Earlier in 2018, the Waratahs thrashed them 37-16 and the win extended their winning streak to 8 games over QLD. But the last two meetings in QLD have been close – 29-26 and 15-13 – both to NSW. However, the Waratahs attack is firing at the moment despite a 1-4 record in their last 5. They’ve played a few tough matches in NZ and smashed the Highlanders a few weeks ago. Meanwhile the Reds are ranking near the bottom of the ladder in the points allowed category and their defence can be shaky. So in the end, I can’t see the Waratahs losing this one or giving up the lead at any stage.
Best bet: Waratahs HT/FT $1.95

Brumbies vs Sunwolves

3 June, 4:05pm
Odds: Brumbies $1.04, Sunwolves $11
The Brumbies are just $1.04 to beat the Sunwolves and they’re coming off a confident building win in South Africa. They beat the Bulls 38-28 and halted a 4 game losing streak in the process. Meanwhile, the Sunwolves had a 2 game winning streak but were no match for the Rebels in Melbourne. They also lost 66-5 in their only game at this venue, which occurred in 2016. But they did something against the Brumbies in Round 2 with a gallant 32-25 loss. The home side is just 2-4 at GIO Stadium in 2018 and I think the line is flattering them. They haven’t covered the line in the day-time at home in their last 9 games. They’re also just 4-9 after a win when playing at home the next week. The away side is 7-3 in away games since 2016 and have been playing good Rugby lately. So I would get on the Sunwolves at this massive underdog line.
Best bet: Sunwolves +29.5 $1.90

Tennis – French Open

J. Del Potro at J. Benneteau

1 June, 12am
Odds: J. Benneteau $7, J. Del Potro $1.10
Juan Martin Del Potro takes on Frenchman Julien Benneteau in this 2nd round matchup. This will be Del Potro’s second match against a French opponent after beating Mahut in 4 sets. Similarly, Benneteau is playing his second straight Argentine as he beat him in 4 sets as well. In the head to head between the two, Del Potro has won both and beat him 6-4, 6-4 last October. Del Potro is 9-3 at the French Open and 20-8 overall in France. But I think this can into the overs category. Benneteau is 13-4 against the over on clay and should be motivated in-front of his home faithful. He’s also a perfect 7-0 since 2013 at his home Open.
Best bet: Over 32.5 games $1.85

A. Barty at S. Williams

1 June, 2am
Odds: S. Williams $2.00, A. Barty $1.80
Ash Barty will look for a massive upset when she takes on one of the greatest Women’s Tennis players in history. Serena Williams returned to the Grand Slam arena with a solid 7-6, 6-4 win over Pliskova. Barty cruised through her matchup, dropping just 4 games in an easy 2 set win. Williams has an incredible record at the French with 26 wins from 30 matches and she is a three time champion, the last coming in 2015. Barty is 2-4 at this Grand Slam but she is in the form of her career. She’s moved into the top 20 on the WTA and she should enjoy the challenge against Serena. They have met once before and Williams smashed her at the Aussie Open 6-2, 6-1. It doesn’t happen often that Williams is the underdog so I love the value for Serena in this one. Sorry Ash!
Best bet: S. Williams WIN $2
