Weekend Sports Betting Guide – 4/5 May 2018

NBA – Playoffs

Cavaliers at Raptors

4 May, 8:05am
Odds: Raptors $1.37, Cavaliers $3.22
Game 1 was hugely disappointing for the Raptors as he pretty much choked away the victory. They led by 14+ early on and credit goes to the Cavs for coming back. LeBron is obviously a beast and he’ll be the key again in game 2. With the win, the Cavs made it 3 straight wins over the Raptors so they should be confident of beating the underdog line once again. For the Raptors, they’ll need to limit turnovers as they made 13 in game 1. So in the end, I’m getting on the Cavs to beat the line.
Best bet: Cavs +6.5 $1.90

76ers at Celtics

4 May, 10:40am
Odds: Celtics $2.50, 76ers $1.57
The Celtics caused an upset in game 1 as they came out and thrashed the 76ers. They made 5 wins in a row at home in the playoffs and they’re back at TD Garden on Friday to push it to 6-0. Terry Rozier is in sparkling form with another 20+ points in game 1. Meanwhile, Al Horford dominated once again with 26 points and young star Jayson Tatum top-scored for the Celtics with 28. So they’re underdogs in game 2 and they definitely won’t mind. The 76ers probably suffered from a long wait from the last round after easily handling the Heat. Ben Simmons made 7 turnovers and most of the team was beaten around the court. Embiid was at his usual best with 31 points and 13 rebounds. So he’ll be the key for the 76ers if they want to level this series. But just like the Cavs, the Celtics have playoff experience and will enjoy home-court advantage once again. It’s tough to win on the road in the NBA playoffs and I’ll be getting on the Celtics here.
Best bet: Celtics WIN $2.50

Warriors at Pelicans

5 May, 10:10am
Odds: Pelicans $2.49, Warriors $1.56
The Pelicans are quickly down 2-0 in this series so they’ll need to turn it around at home. But the Warriors just look a class above them. They’ve scored 120+ in both victories without him and Curry returned with 28 points in game 2 off the bench. He should be better for the run and that’s scary for New Orleans in game 3. This season, the Pelicans went 26-17 at home. However, the Warriors are 7-0 against them in New Orleans since 2011. They’re also 9-6 ATS at this venue against them. So get on the Warriors to make it 3-0 in this series with a 5+ points victory.
Best bet: Warriors -4 $1.90

NHL – Playoffs

Capitals at Penguins

4 May, 9:05am
Odds: Penguins $1.63, Capitals $2.30
The series continues between the Capitals and Penguins with game 4 slated for Friday morning. The Capitals are leading 2-1 after two straight wins. In game 2, they easily won 4-1 and just closed out the win in game 3 with a 4-3 victory. So the Penguins will be desperate for a win in game 4. After a loss, the Penguins are 53-19-4 when they play at home. So there’s a good chance they can rebound and they’ve been backed in by the bookies at $1.63. They still have a 8-6-1 record at home against the Capitals and went 31-12-2 at home this season. So I’m getting on the Penguins to even up this series with a home victory on Friday morning.
Best bet: Penguins WIN $1.63

Rugby Union – Round 11

Rebels vs Crusaders

4 May, 7:45pm
Odds: Rebels $6.00, Crusaders $1.13
The Rebels face the Crusaders on Friday night in a must-win clash. At 4-5, their season is on the line and the return of Will Genia will help. He missed the South African tour and they couldn’t get near the Stormers or Bulls. So they’ve now lost 4 straight matches and that includes 2 at home. Meanwhile, the Crusaders just keep winning. They’ve won 5 straight matches and their defence is on fire. In their last 3 wins, they’ve conceded just 35 total points. At 7-2, they’re looking like the best team in Super Rugby once again. In the head to head, the Crusaders are 4-2 against them and they’ve won the last 2. Last season, they won this clash 41-19 and beat them 85-26 at home previously. So this should be another big win for the Crusaders. The safe bet is 13+ but they could cover the 14.5 line.
Best bet: Crusaders 13+ $1.67

Waratahs vs Blues

5 May, 3:05pm
Odds: Waratahs $1.50, Blues $$2.60
The Waratahs take this home match to Brookvale Oval as they face the Auckland Blues. NSW is 5-2-1 on the season and looking the better side compared to the 2-7 Blues. The Waratahs are coming off the bye after a 29-0 thrashing at the hands of the Lions. So they’ll be looking to rebound here. Meanwhile, the Blues couldn’t beat the Jaguares at home last week and have a 1-4 record in their last 5. They have won the last 2 against the Waratahs, including a 40-33 win over them in Australia last season. But they’re currently struggling with injuries and I can see the Waratahs just getting over them this time. So the 1-12 margin is good value for the home side. They’re 3-1 at home this season and average 31 points per game, which they should enjoy playing against the Blues mediocre defence that allows 32 points per game.
Best bet: Waratahs 1-12 $2.85

Soccer – EPL

Brighton vs Man United

5 May, 5am
Odds: Brighton $5.00, Man United $1.70
Man United travel to Brighton for the 2nd ever EPL matchup. Earlier this season, Man United beat them 1-0 at home. It’s been an average season for Brighton as they sit 14th on the table with an 8-13-14 record. But they’ll be looking for an upset at home against this side. They have been decent at home with a 6-8-4 record. But scoring goals will probably be the issue. They’re averaging just 0.9 goals per game and Man United should have them covered in defence. Man United is 10-3-4 on the road this season and have beat Arsenal and EPL winners Man City in recent matches. So you can’t go past Man United to win this at $1.70.
Best bet: Man United WIN $1.70
