Preview of NRL Round 1 with Best Bets for every game

The following NRL Round 1 Preview will provide an overview of each game and our best betting predictions.

St George Dragons vs Brisbane Broncos

March 8, 2018 7:50 pm @ Jubilee Oval
Odds: Dragons $1.90, Broncos $1.90

Betting preview of the Dragons versus the Broncos at Jubilee Oval on Thursday.

Dragons Form:

Brisbane head into the season with strong form after winning all three trials. They have lost Ben Hunt this season but this side is always strong and has enough depth to cover him.

Broncos Form:

Brisbane head into the season with strong form after winning all three trials. They have lost Ben Hunt this season but this side is always strong and has enough depth to cover him.

Despite Brisbane’s great record over the Dragons, the meetings in Sydney have been low scoring and close. So the either team win under 8.5 points is a good bet.
Either team under 8.5 points ($2.10)

Newcastle Knights vs Manly Sea Eagles

March 9, 2018 6:00 pm @ McDonald Jones Stadium
Odds: Knights $1.90, Sea Eagles $1.90

Betting preview of the Knights versus the Sea Eagles at McDonald Jones Stadium on Friday.

Knights Form:

The Knights finished last in 2017 but the addition of Mitchell Pearce helps them this season. They’ll be looking to start the season with a strong showing at home.

Sea Eagles Form:

Manly reached the finals last season but lost to the Panthers in the first round. They lost Blake Green in the offseason which is a big blow. But they’ll be confident against the Knights due to the head to head record.

This should be a close contest to start the season and we’ll be taking the Sea Eagles 1-12. They have a great record over the Knights.
Sea Eagles 1-12 ($2.95)

North Queensland Cowboys vs Cronulla Sharks

March 9, 2018 7:50 pm @ 1300Smiles Stadium
Odds: Cowboys $1.50, Sharks $2.60

Betting preview of the Cowboys versus the Sharks at 1300Smiles Stadium on Friday.

Cowboys Form:

North Queensland were the story of the finals last season as they reached the Grand Final without Thurston. They lost in the end but it was a great effort. In 2018, JT is back and they’ll be looking to finish up the ladder.

Sharks Form:

The Sharks will be looking to avenge a shock finals loss against the Cowboys last season. They have a strong defence and that should help them against JT and Morgan. They also recruited Matt Moylan in the offseason and they should be better in attack.

Once again, this looks like another close matchup between the sides. So the either team to win by under 8.5 points is nice value.
Either team under 8.5 points ($2.22)

Wests Tigers vs Sydney Roosters

March 10, 2018 4:30 pm @ ANZ Stadium
Odds: Tigers $3.65, Roosters $1.28

Betting preview of the Tigers versus the Roosters at ANZ Stadium on Saturday.

Tigers Form:

The Tigers start 2018 with a tough matchup against the Roosters. They have lost a few talented players in the offseason and they’re tipped to finish in the bottom eight.

Roosters Form:

The Roosters had a great offseason as they picked up Cronk and former Tiger James Tedesco. That should improve their attack even more in 2018. They finished 2nd on the ladder in 2017 and we can’t see them dropping outside the top four.

The Roosters love played the Tigers and we can see a similar result to past meetings. Roosters 13+
Roosters 13+ ($2.05)

South Sydney Rabbitohs vs New Zealand Warriors

March 10, 2018 7:00 pm @ Perth Stadium
Odds: Rabbitohs $1.47, Warriors $2.70

Betting preview of the Rabbitohs versus the Warriors at Perth Stadium on Saturday.

Rabbitohs Form:

The Rabbitohs finished 12th on the ladder last season but Greg Inglis is back after missing most of 2017. They also added Gagai and they should improve in attack.

Warriors Form:

For the Warriors, they finished 2017 with a long losing streak and they’re tipped by many to finish last in 2018. They have added a few talented players in the offseason so they’re a hard team to pick in the early rounds.

The Rabbitohs look stronger coming into 2018 and we’ll back them to continue their winning ways against the Warriors.
Rabbitohs -5.5 ($1.90)

Canterbury Bulldogs vs Melbourne Storm

March 10, 2018 9:00 pm @ Perth Stadium
Odds: Bulldogs $2.95, Storm $1.40

Betting preview of the Bulldogs versus the Storm at Perth Stadium on Saturday.

Bulldogs Form:

The Bulldogs finished 11th last season and sacked Des Hasler as a result. They also lost James Graham and could struggle in 2018.

Storm Form:

Melbourne kick off their title defence in Perth this Saturday. They’ve lost Cooper Cronk and Billy Slater is out with a sore shoulder. But they still have Cameron Smith and their scoring power will likely continue in 2018.

We can’t see an upset as the Storm will likely have the Bulldogs covered in attack. But the 1-12 margin is good value.
Storm 1-12 ($3.30)

Penrith Panthers vs Parramatta Eels

March 11, 2018 4:10 pm @ Panthers Stadium
Odds: Panthers $1.92, Eels $1.88

Betting preview of the Panthers versus the Eels at Panthers Stadium on Sunday.

Panthers Form:

Penrith had an interesting offseason after finishing 7th on the ladder in 2017. They lost Matt Moylan and Cartwright so it will be interesting to see how they progress this season.

Eels Form:

The Eels also made the semi-finals last season and have Jarryd Hayne back in the lineup. But they will miss the try scoring ability of Semi Radradra.

This a tough matchup to pick as both sides made the semi’s in 2017. They also play close matches when they meet in Penrith.
Either team under 8.5 points ($2.10)

Gold Coast Titans vs Canberra Raiders

March 11, 2018 6:30 pm @ CBus Super Stadium
Odds: Titans $2.20, Raiders $1.67

Betting preview of the Titans versus the Raiders at CBus Super Stadium on Sunday.

Titans Form:

The Titans finished 15th last season and have a new coach in 2018. They also dropped Jarryd Hayne and will look to rebuild this team in 2018.

Raiders Form:

Canberra finished just outside the top 8 in 2017 but the injury to Josh Hodgson will hurt them this season. But they do have a good record on the Gold Coast.

This should be a win for the Raiders. They have the Titans covered in attack and the Titans don’t have a great defence.
Raiders -2.5 ($1.90)
