2017/2018 Ashes Cricket – 2nd Test Betting Preview

cricket-previews-header 2017/2018 Ashes Cricket - 2nd Test Betting Preview
The Ashes continues on Saturday as England look to square the series in Adelaide. But Australia won the first test by 10 wickets and have the momentum. This will be a day-night test match and is the first in the history of the Ashes. We’ll preview the 2nd test below and provide our predictions.

Adelaide Oval Test History:

  • Australia are 2-1 against England at the Adelaide Oval since 2006.
  • This will be the first day-night Ashes test match.

Team News

After a 10 wicket victory at the Gabba, Australia will most likely select an unchanged lineup. There is talk of resting paceman during the Ashes and Chadd Sayers has a great record at the Adelaide Oval. However, we can’t see Cummins, Hazlewood or Starc getting rested after dominating England in the second innings at the Gabba. The batting lineup does have a few question marks, especially Usman Khawaja but we’re predicting they’ll stick with a winning side.

England would have been disappointed losing the first test after setting 300 in the first innings. They let Steve Smith score a big hundred and the batting lineup collapsed in the second innings. They’ll be questioning their bowling choices as Ball and Woakes were no match for the Australians in both innings. The form of Alastair Cook is also a concern at the top of the order as he failed in both innings last test. Joe Root will need to score 50+ in the first innings again and the likes of Anderson/Broad need to bowl Australia out quickly if they’re any chance of winning this test.

Top Runscorer – Australia

Our tips in the first test paid off as Steve Smith both top scored and reached triple figures. So he’ll be hard to back against here. David Warner found form in the second innings with 80+ not out and Cameron Bancroft scored his first half-century. However, the new pink ball will be tough to face against Anderson and Broad. In the middle order, Khawaja struggles against spin and England will likely bowl Ali when he enters the crease, so we’ll steer clear. Shaun Marsh scored a fighting 50 in the first innings at the Gabba and could be great value at $9. However, we’re going with Steve Smith again after his century at the Gabba.
Best bet: Steve Smith ($3.25)
To Score a Fifty – 1st Innings: Steve Smith ($2.20)

Top Runscorer – England

Mark Stoneman looked good in the first test before he was undone for 53. But our tip 50+ tip for Stoneman saluted. In the Gabba first innings, James Vince was the standout and should have scored a century after a brilliant runout by Lyon. He’s good value at $5.50 and has been hitting the ball well this tour. Joe Root is the favourite again for England but Cummins has his number after getting him out LBW in both innings at the Gabba. The value for England is Moeen Ali as he made 38 and 40 at the Gabba. If England struggle early, he can score quick runs in the middle to lower order. At $9, he’s a great value bet.
Best bet: Moeen Ali ($9)

Australia has the momentum after thrashing England by 10 wickets at the Gabba. However, this should be a close finish as the pink ball provides generally tougher conditions for batting. The English love playing in swing conditions and James Anderson could clean up in both innings. However, England’s batting lineup showed signs of inexperience in the first test and that will ultimately cost them in Adelaide against an in-form bowling lineup. Steve Smith and his men to beat England once again.
Best bet: Australia WIN ($1.63)
