Weekend Sports Betting Guide – 5th October 2017

Cricket – Twenty20

India vs Australia

Sunday 08/10/2017 – 12:30am
Odds: India $1.62, Australia $2.30

After a 4-1 series win, India will look to continue their dominance in the first game of three 20/20s against the Aussies. Australia haven’t beaten India in a Twenty20 International since 2012 at Colombo. India have comfortably won the last 6 meetings and this is looking like another tough outing for Australia.

In team news, Australia have brought in left armer Behrendorff after his Big Bash wicket taking abilities. Tim Paine will keep and provides solid batting down the order. Dan Christian and Moises Henriques will battle for the all rounder spot. For India, Shikhar Dhawan should get his chance at the top of the order. But India are playing a very similar lineup from the ODI series.

Top Runscorer – India

Virat Kohli has dominated Australia in Twenty20 and his average of 66.83 speaks volumes. He didn’t have a great ODI series so he’ll be looking for a big score as captain. Rohit Sharma is in superb form with scores of 125, 65, 71 in his last 3 ODI matches. But he averages just 29.33 in Twenty20 against Australia. So we’re backing Kohli.
Best bet: Kohli ($3.50)

Top Runscorer – Australia

Aaron Finch has a good Twenty20 record against India as he averages 48.66 in 6 career matches. He scored 250 runs in the 3 ODI matches against India so he’s in good form. Warner doesn’t have a great record against India but he did score a massive hundred recently. He played well in the IPL this year and he’ll be looking to end Australia’s losing streak. But we’re going with Finch for more value.
Best bet: Finch ($3.75)

Prediction

In the end, Australia aren’t a great Twenty20 team and this will be another tough match in India. Back India.
Best bet: India WIN ($1.62)

NFL – Friday

New England Patriots at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Friday 06/10/2017 – 11:25am
Odds: Patriots $1.42, Buccaneers $2.95

The Buccaneers host the Patriots in the Friday feature game. The Patriots are coming off a tough loss against the Panthers at home and they’ll be looking to rebound on the road. The Bucs just beat the winless Giants and will need to be better this week.

The Patriots have dominated the Buccaneers in the head to head. They’ve conceded just 10 points in the last 3 meetings. Tom Brady and his offence are scoring 32.3 points per game already this season and they’ll look to dominate the Bucs secondary. They scored 36 points in their last road game and they’ve scored 30+ in the last 3 overall. The Bucs are playing well at home as they’ve won 6 in a row. They’ve won both clashes at home this season and with a 2-1 record, this is a crucial game for their playoff hopes.

In the handicap, the Patriots are 5 point favourites. They have a 8-1-1 record against the spread on the road and they’re 16-6-1 overall since last season. The Bucs have a 6-3-1 record against the spread at home so they could keep this close. But in the end, the Patriots always respond after a loss and we’re predicting another high scoring contest with the Patriots winning by around 7-10 points.

Best bet: Patriots -5 ($1.92)

MLB – Friday

Boston Red Sox at Houston Astros

Friday 06/10/2017 – 7:05am
Odds: Astros $1.74, Red Sox $2.14

The ALDS between the Red Sox and Astros kicks off with a mouthwatering pitching matchup. Chris Sale of the Red Sox will take on Justin Verlander. Both pitchers will be familiar with each other as they both played in the AL Central. Sale is in contention for the AL Cy Young award after a 17-8 season. He recorded 308 total strikeouts and his ERA is just 2.90. On the road, he went 10-5 with a 2.71 ERA so he’ll take confidence into this matchup against the Astros dynamic batting lineup.

Since joining the Astros in September, the Astros are 5-0 when Verlander pitches. His ERA in those games is just 1.06 and he has 43 strikeouts in 34 innings. In his two home starts, the Astros have conceded just 1 runs and Verlander has allowed just 4 hits in 14 innings pitched.

In the end, this should be a very low scoring game based on the pitching matchup. The Astros went 48-33 at home this season and they haven’t lost with Verlander on the mound. So we’re predicting a close win for the Astros in Game 1. They also just went 3-1 against the Red Sox in Boston before the playoffs.

In terms of run scoring, the total is 7 runs and based on both pitchers form, this should go under the total runs in game 1.
Best bet: Astros WIN $1.74

Rugby Union – The Rugby Championship

Argentina vs Australia

Sunday 08/10/2017 – 9:40am
Odds: Australia $1.40, Argentina $3.00

The Wallabies played in a draw last week against the Springboks and they’ll be looking for a win in Argentina. They have dominated the Pumas in recent clashes and beat them by 25 points in the last matchup. In Argentina, Australia won 34-9 in 2015 and they’re 5-0 against the Pumas.

Argentina are yet to taste victory in The Rugby Championship as they’ve lost all 5 games. They’ve scored just 90 points and conceded 198. They lost 39-22 in their last match against the All Blacks and the Springboks scored 41 points against them in their last home match.

So all signs are pointing to a large win for the Wallabies in Argentina. They’ve covered the line in the last 5 meetings and they already beat the Pumas by 25 points in September. So we would back them to cover the 7 point handicap.
Best bet: Australia -7 ($1.90)
